The Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL), in collaboration with the Center for Social Justice, arranged a talk on Consultation on Legal Barriers to Education on 31st March 2022, wherein students across many LUMS faculties participated. Mr. Peter Jacobs, Executive Director for Center Social Justice, highlighted the role and work of CSJ in improving the education in the country, particularly minority education. He expressed the indifferent attitude of the State towards education, particularly educational opportunities for Pakistan’s minority community. He noted that the constitutional dictates of equality amongst all citizens are not being implemented, and minorities’ rights are not being safeguarded as per the provisions of the Constitution. The talk was moderated by Ms Sahar Zareen Bandial, an Advocate of the High Court. She went on to elaborate upon Article 25-A, by which every child from the age of 5 to 16 has the fundamental right to acquire free education. She observed that, despite the insertion of Article 25-A in the 18th Amendment, the State needs to pay more heed towards its implementation.
