The Regulatory State, a talk by Dr. Amber Darr
On Tuesday, 12th April 2022, the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law was joined by Dr. Amber Darr, an Advocate for the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and a Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn. She is presently a lecturer at the University of Manchester, as well as a Senior Research Fellow at the UCL Centre for Law, Economics and Society. The talk was organized and moderated by Dr. Sheharyar Sikander Hamid, Assistant Professor of Law at SAHSOL and currently teaching Commercial Law to BA.LLB first year students. Dr. Darr’s talk explored the growth of the regulatory state in Pakistan since the 1990s, with an examination of the history and context of regulation in Pakistan, and the impact this regulatory governance has made on different sectors of the economy. The session proposed a way forward for re-balancing between the regulators and the judiciary for a more seamless delivery of economic justice in Pakistan.
