It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English.

LUMS Alumna, Shanza Faiq, B.A-L.L.B., Class of 2016 has received a full tuition scholarship to pursue an L.L.M. in International Development Law and Human Rights from the University of Warwick. Along with this she has also been shortlisted for the Fulbright Scholarship.
Shanza has recieved the prestigious Woman of Pakistan scholarship at Warwick, which is awarded to one student every year. She recieved this scholarship due to her high CGPA, numerous extra-curricular activities, determination and desire to bring about a viable change for human rights law in Pakistan.
Previously, Shanza spent her summers working at places such as the Attorney General Pakistan’s office, and was also one of the two females to be selected for the Pakistan Youth Parliament from Islamabad. Under the supervision of the Head of Department of LUMS law school, Shanza completed the first Senior Year Project of the LUMS Law department, examining how Pakistan’s current cybercrime act violates the fundamental human rights of its citizens.
Here’s what Shanza has to say about her experience at LUMS:
“LUMS has played an integral role in helping me achieve all that I set my mind into. The beauty about this institute is that it provides you with a multitude of opportunities and avenues; the onus lies upon you to explore and utilize them. The 5-year law program seems daunting to many, due to the extra year, however it has vastly broadened my mental horizons and allowed me to view the world from a plethora of perspectives. It was this enhanced vision that allowed me to grow cognizant of the blatant human rights abuses that are taking place across all socio-economic strata in Pakistan, particularly for women, religious minorities and the transgender community. It is my hope that this scholarship, alongside my education at LUMS, will amalgamate into a firm foundation, which I can use as a launch pad to kick start my career as a human rights lawyer.@

LUMS alumna, Shanza Faiq, BA-LL.B graduate of 2016, has topped the Central Superior Services (CSS) exam and has been inducted into the Foreign Services of Pakistan Group. In 2018, over 11,887 candidates appeared for the CSS exam from all over Pakistan, out of which only 567 were able to qualify. To not only top the list of qualified candidates but to also do it on her first attempt is no easy feat, and undoubtedly is a milestone we are all proud of here at LUMS.
Students at LUMS are often encouraged and provided with the tools necessary to explore how their education and training can help them have a positive impact in their communities and beyond. Ms. Faiq and the excellent work that she has continued to do after graduation is a testament to that fact. Ms. Faiq previously won a fully-funded Woman of Pakistan Scholarship at the University of Warwick to pursue an LL.M in International Development Law and Human Rights, as well as the Fulbright Scholarship.
Talking about her most recent achievement Ms. Faiq said, “I feel extremely humbled and grateful for this privilege that has been bestowed upon me. It will take a while for this moment to sink in fully.”
Sharing how LUMS helped her achieve success, she added, “The ability to critically analyse a vast volume of information from a range of perspectives and to think on the spot during the exam were just a few of the skills I imbibed during my time at LUMS. LUMS singlehandedly played the largest role in helping me achieve this position. Had it not been for the exposure, guidance and fine-tuning I received at LUMS, I would not have been able to win a scholarship for my Masters or successfully conquer the CSS exam. In essence, LUMS has been the single most pivotal stepping stone in my life and I shall always remain indebted to the people I met here, the encouragement I received, the roadblocks that were removed from my path during my time here and the unfettered support I received whenever I would need it. LUMS is not just a university — it is an experience that defines the rest of your life.”
On her aspirations as she prepares to join the Foreign Service, Ms. Faiq says that she firmly believes it is a platform where she can carve an indelible niche not just for herself, but all women in Pakistan who wish to break the patriarchal glass ceiling.
Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor LUMS, expressed his pride at her achievement and said, “Shanza, you make us very proud indeed! You are a role model and an inspiration to the young women of Pakistan to follow in your footsteps. Congratulations for these superb accomplishments as we share your success in celebration with the entire LUMS community.”
Syed Babar Ali, Founder and Patron of LUMS, also congratulated Ms. Faiq on this wonderful achievement saying, “Hearty congratulations on your accomplishment. You make us all proud. Pakistan needs women like you to fulfil the nation’s potential. Wishing you continued success.”
We are very proud of Ms. Faiq’s achievements and wish her the best of luck for future endeavours.

Maria Farooq (Class of 2012) and adjunct faculty at SAHSOL, was recently promoted to Partner at Axis Law Chambers!
Maria joined Axis Law in 2016, where she has built a reputation as a seasoned international commercial arbitration lawyer. Some recent highlights of her career include representing a Pakistani state-owned enterprise in an LCIA arbitration arising from a power purchase agreement, as well representing the same enterprise in an ICC arbitration arising out of a construction dispute. Though Maria has pivoted to Axis Law’s disputes practice, she remains well-regarded for her extensive transactional experience, attested to by her recommendation in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific for her “experience in handling M&A” and for her deep “knowledge of telecom laws”.
